Connecting Greg's Wings to Patient Safety: Sparking Conversations for Change

cpsw

Canadian Patient Safety Week reminds us of the vital role patient safety plays in healthcare. Every missed opportunity for communication can have life-altering consequences.

One powerful story inspiring change is Falling Through the Cracks: Greg’s Story, a film that has reached over 450 audiences since its release. Each screening sparks important and often emotional conversations about patient safety, and how we can prevent tragedies like Greg’s from happening again.

The film tells the story of Greg Price, a young man who tragically lost his life after falling through the cracks of our healthcare system. His story serves as a heartbreaking reminder of how communication breakdowns and system failures can lead to preventable harm. Greg’s family, through Greg’s Wings, has been dedicated to driving awareness and action around patient safety.

Falling Through the Cracks is more than a movie – it’s sparking a movement. Monthly virtual screenings and discussions with Greg’s family continue to amplify the importance of patient safety and the need for collaborative solutions. As healthcare providers, we must ask ourselves:

  • Are we actively communicating with patients and other healthcare professionals?
  • Are we using available tools like Netcare and electronic records to provide the best care possible?

These are small but essential steps that can save lives.

We are also excited to support the launch of The Co-Pilot Collective, an online community where healthcare providers and patients alike can share experiences, ideas and solutions to improve patient safety. Greg’s story has inspired many, and through this collective, we hope to keep the conversation going and create lasting change in our healthcare system.

Greg Price always sought to understand different perspectives and work toward better solutions for the future. As we reflect on Greg’s story during Canadian Patient Safety Week, let’s remember that patient safety is not just a responsibility, it is a shared commitment. Together, we can ensure that no patient falls through the cracks again.
