World Spine Day is held globally on October 16 each year in order to raise awareness about spinal health and spine disorders. World Spine Day offers lots of opportunities for organizations and individuals to get involved.
This year, World Spine Day focuses on "BACK2BACK", highlighting ways people can help their spines by staying mobile, avoiding physical inactivity, not overloading their spines, and adopting healthy habits like weight loss and smoking cessation.

Congratulations to our World Spine Day contest winner!
To celebrate World Spine Day this year, we launched our first-ever WSD-inspired contest to highlight the importance of spinal health.
Members were encouraged to submit a photo or video of them performing a stretch with an explanation of why they stretch.
Congratulations to the winner of our World Spine Day contest, Dr. Laura Lohndorf, who shared that she stretches so that she “has a few moments everyday to focus on myself and my body, so I can keep helping others do the same.”

2020
Held annually on October 16, WSD is an international day to raise awareness about spinal pain and disability and promote spinal health. This year and as Albertans continue to forge ahead through the pandemic, these efforts are more important than ever and captured by the theme of getting “Back on Track.”
This year's theme aimed to inspire Albertans to return to a healthy balance of activity for their spines. For some of us, the pandemic led to a drastic reduction in activity, while for others, a drastic increase in activity. One way or another, the pandemic has dramatically changed how we move and use our bodies, and inadvertently increased incidences of back and neck pain in people working from home.
